Mostly masters of the oil medium, Flemish artists had a striking creative style that employed realism and detail to capture the world around them. On this tour, we visit a number of museums and galleries where we can see some of the masterworks in question. From the Mad Art Collection of Mechelen and the dramatic artworks of Rubens, to the remarkable Old Masters exhibit in Brussels, stand before iconic pieces that will take your breath away.

Along with taking time to indulge in regional cuisine, we also experience life and culture in this picturesque part of the world. 1 April 2019: Itinerary

Travel to Brussels from London St. Pancras and transfer to our hotel. We enjoy a brief early evening walk around the city before dinner.

After a lecture from our expert, we visit the Oldmasters Museum, where a presentation on the Unseen Works of Bruegel awaits. After lunch, we explore the Grand Place and enjoy an evening meal.

In Antwerp, we tour its cathedral and the Mayer Van den Bergh museum, with its Bruegel paintings. After lunch, we head to Rubens House, home to the artist’s former studio and private quarters. Later, we tour the Mad Art Museum in Mechelen and return to Brussels for a group dinner.

Journey to the charming city of Bruges, home to cobbled streets with shops selling lace and chocolate. Here, we visit the Groeningemuseum and have lunch at the Halve Maan Brewery. A boat trip on Bruges’ canals and dinner in Brussels follow.

Today, we travel to Ghent, where we are treated to a private tour of the restoration of Van Eyck’s masterpiece, displayed in Ghent Museum. After lunch, we visit St. Peter’s in Leuven to see paintings by Dieric Bouts. We return to Brussels later on and enjoy a final evening meal together as a group.

There is time to explore at leisure this morning before lunch and then we return to the railway station to travel back home to London.
