We depart for Ahmedabad, arriving in the morning of Day 2. This is a truly captivating destination that is home to the Sabarmati Ashram (Gandhi’s former headquarters) along with many fantastic museums. Culturally, it is a rich major city and one that is bound to both surprise and delight you. After transferring to our hotel in Rajkot, we take the afternoon to relax and recharge before reuniting for our first dinner as a group.
Following a hearty breakfast, we introduce our vocal chords to the magnificent Khirasara Palace, a honey coloured hilltop fort spread over seven acres that boasts unrivalled panoramic views. This building has an impressive 450-year-old heritage and its elevated position makes for an ideal location from which to sing. A leisurely afternoon allows us to unwind further, as we soak in the exotic sounds and scents of Rajkot city.
Our first stop today is the mighty temple of Shri Ramakrishna Ashrama, a bustling site of worship and song. After pausing for lunch we enter the Watson Museum to view its exceptional collection of Gujarati art and artefacts. Named after Colonel John Watson, the exhibits here are enchanting and they range from 3rd century inscriptions to intricate ivory work. There will be ample time here to discover the wealth of artefacts on display before sitting down to dinner in the city and returning to our hotel.
We depart Rajkot and journey to the peaceful area of Dasada, which will act as our home for the next two nights. Our adventures here begin at the stunning Sasan Gir National Park, where we enjoy a truly unique singing session at the Lion Safari Camp. Other animals we might catch glimpses of include leopards, marsh crocodiles and wild boar. There are also around 300 different varieties of bird in this beautiful natural park.
Enjoy a second day of songs, harmony and pure relaxation beneath the vivid Indian sky, amid the vast desert plains, marshes and arid grasslands of Dasada. Revel in the atmosphere of alfresco group singing and be transported by the glorious sounds.
